Unfortunately for all-round nice guy Chris Gill at the Woodfired Oven, his website ticked ALL of these boxes. 

When Chris came to us a few months ago, he was armed with a website that just wasn’t performing. Being a mobile food business, having clearly displayed location maps is key. Yet, these were not showing properly on mobile devices. With over 60% of his traffic coming from mobile, this was a big problem. In addition to this, his website was sluggish and took a lifetime to load. Not good when hangry. 

We were tasked with fixing this and adding some additional features to the site. It was then apparent that these cosmetic issues were just the tip of the iceberg. Built on a free WordPress theme with budget hosting, Chris’s domain was littered with coding errors making the site slow to load and actioning some simple editing functions a nightmare. 

So with a little persuasion… Chris tore the bandaid off. We completely scrapped his site, switched to a local and reliable host, and got to work rebuilding the site. 

This is where having a good website host pays huge dividends. Having someone in your corner who can talk the talk, make careful and regular backups and get your site running at lightning speed is such a huge bonus for your company. Not all web hosts are made the same! 

Building on a new fresh platform, the new site was created in no time. It was fast loading, fresh and free of the mobile version errors that plagued the last website. 

And the result?

We upped his web speed from a sluggish 18 second load time to a speedy 2 seconds. The back-end was totally re-built so images loaded correctly and the viewing experience was vastly improved for both desktop and mobile. With his lead generation increasing by over 400%, needless to say, Chris is one happy customer.

The onset of Covid-19 made for a rollercoaster 2020 for many local businesses, in particular cafés. Forced to adapt and reinvent the wheel, many cafés changed their business models. Whilst some floundered, others flourished – going from strength to strength and even doing better than they were in 2019.

And right behind almost every good café in South East Queensland was Billy Cochrane and the team at Qld Coffee Technicians (QCT). QCT played a huge part in the success of these businesses, ensuring every coffee grinder was dialed-in to perfection and every coffee machine was extracting the perfect drop each and every time. 

Recognising that clear and consistent branding was a big piece of the puzzle in the success of his business, Billy contacted Brand Hero to assist in the development of QTC’s visual identity. 

Vehicle Signage

QCT has 6 vehicles on the road, servicing cafés from Noosa to Tweed Heads. Ranging from large commercial vans to smaller utes, each vehicle has been custom-fitted with a partial wrap to maximise his exposure on the road. Using an element from his logo as a watermark, this has become a feature of all the vehicles, ensuring a consistent look no matter what the vehicle make, model and size. 

Building Signage

A recent acquisition of commercial space near Caloundra is helping QCT better service the north coast market. To ensure the business creates a professional impression for its visitors, Billy engaged us to apply graphics to the external glass entry doors and windows. One Way Vision Vinyl was used on the windows for maximum impact from the outside, without losing light or visibility from the inside. The door was fitted with a branded frosting vinyl strip displaying the QCT logo. Making use of similar elements used on his vehicles, we have created a seamless branding experience for his customers and ensured a consistent look for the company across the two different media. 

Website

Realising that offline branding was only part of the story, Billy then engaged Brand Hero to undertake a revamp of his website.

With a rise in web traffic in the past 12 months, the website simply didn’t reflect his business’ professionalism and certainly wasn’t leading to conversions. Starting with website copywriting, his online presence was completely re-evaluated. The new copy for his website was coupled with professional photos and a sleek and modern design, consistent with his vehicles and building signage. With many café owners being busy and “on the go”, the mobile experience was optimised to suit his target audience’s browsing preferences.

Printing

Whilst not playing a major role in brand development, Billy still required printed items for use in the business. Stickers, business cards and other collateral were developed, ensuring the look was in line with his other touchpoints in terms of fonts, colours and graphical elements.

We are incredibly proud of our collaboration with Ok Tedi Mining Limited (OTML) in bringing their online and offline presence up-to-date and defining OTML as the industry leader it is.

Prior to our engagement, the company’s visual identity was in much need of an overhaul. From their website, to their printed stationery, from the mine site signage to their airport, there was a company-wide requirement to update their image to reflect the quality of the company.

Doing so would help the OTML brand to attract quality investors, team members and other stakeholders to engage with the company for future success.

After some smaller branding jobs such as business cards, Brand Hero was engaged to conduct the site survey, production and installation for signage works at the Tabubil International & Domestic Airports, town centre, as well as the OTML Head Office.

Using our industry expertise, we worked with key OTML team members, to provide solutions that not only looked good, but were also cost-effective and appropriate for the PNG climate. Both Stage One and Stage Two of this project went seamlessly and on was budget with stunning results for OTML and it’s stakeholders.

Not long after these projects were completed, Brand Hero was once again engaged to redesign the company website. Working with a copywriter and professional photographer, the company’s evolving image was further strengthened with its new online presence.

In addition to this, Brand Hero collaborated with OTML on the creation and promotion of the company’s core values. Through the use of visually appealing signage, print collateral and graphic design, the OTML team were empowered to live and work under the company’s ethos, particularly around the areas of safety, accountability and teamwork. 

Incorporating elements from Papua New Guinea’s cultural heritage into various facets of the project, we helped foster a stronger connection between the company and the local community. This has helped instill pride in not only OTML, but PNG as a nation.

By keeping the design and production with one partner, OTML were able to create a level of consistency that resulted in a seamless branding experience across their website, signage and print media, enhancing the professionalism of their brand.

Brand Hero continues our work with OTML in progressing it’s brand identity even further and will no doubt produce more quality work in the future.
